Coming in September 2012 at the Gateway Center

An exciting Smithsonian exhibit will be on display at Gateway Center for the Arts, September, 2012, setting the themes for major events throughout the year.  This compelling exhibition will show how our evolving mobility grew our country and affected each of us through the migration of our own
personal heritage.

Colonial emigration, Westward expansion, slavery, rags to riches stories. Whatever the story our history has been that of courage, resilience, and continuous movements from past generations to our movements of today. What did it take our ancestors to pack up, kiss their loved ones goodbye, and find Volusia County as their new home. Gateway Center for the Arts along with Smithsonian Institute and the Florida Humanities Council give you "Journey Stories".

GCA will provide the community with various events, lectures, exhibitions, and contests which will stretch from 2011 to May 2013. Our project will be a compelling way to show how some of our ancestors and families of past and present changed a young nation by mobility, and how our local ancestors got here by their personal accounts and illustrate their way of movement, fresh starts, their difficult journey, their hopes
and promises, and their grim realities.
